Story of the Week: Creating Love

Last Thursday, I happened to be sitting in my car when, in the rear-view mirror, I saw a Bolt Food courier talking to a man who appeared to be homeless.

I started to draw assumptions about what was going on. Had the homeless guy ordered delivery? Did the homeless guy have a disagreement with the Bolt Food courier? My questions were soon answered when I saw the courier reach inside his right pocket and hand the other man some money.

As the courier prepared to leave, I jumped out of my car and, like an imposing police officer, raised my right hand to stop him. I just had to ask this man what had motivated him to help the other one. His answer gave me goosebumps.

He told me that, in his country — India — there is a great deal of poverty and, since he is more fortunate than most, first and foremost by having a job, and is thousands of miles away from those that he should really be helping, he does what he can to relieve the suffering of the less fortunate in Cyprus.

Faruk Ahmed pictured on the left. Kudos to him because he is a very generous man.

Indeed, this was not a one-off act of charity. I later found out that the same courier stops by every day to give whatever he can to that particular man.

As the ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao Tzu, said, “Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love.”

Kudos to Bolt Food courier Faruk Ahmed for creating love.

Words of Wisdom

Less is more:

“Sometimes those who give the most are the ones with the least to spare.”

Mike McIntyre / Attorney and Politician

Flower power:

“When my husband was hospitalised for almost a year, my house was left to fend for itself. One day, I came home from another long day by my husband’s bedside to discover our flower boxes brimming with beautiful flowers. A neighbour did this for me. She wanted me to have something nice to look at when I came home.”

A Question to Ponder, dear reader

“When was the last time you ‘created love’?”
